Study finds kids read more than 27 million books in 2021-2022 school year Tiktok trends encourage kids to read more According to the latest research, the number of books children read has increased by nearly a quarter in the past year, and trends on social media like TikTok have helped shape reading habits.

The 2023 What Kids Are Reading report looked at nearly 1.3 million students in the UK and Republic of Ireland, including over 40,000 in Scotland.

It revealed that students read 27,265,657 books in the 2021-2022 school year, which is 24% more than the 2020-2021 school year.
