Money Saving Expert addresses a series of price increases that began in April Martin Lewis has issued urgent advice for mobile phone customers that could help reduce hundreds of their phone bills every year. In his latest episode of money-saving tips, Lewis addressed the series of price hikes that started this month.

It warned customers Thursday that phone bills would rise as much as 17% from April, even for those on contract, due to rising inflation.

Mr Lewis went on to warn that those paying more than £9 a month in bills are likely to be hit with sharp increases.

To avoid the increases, Lewis urged the 14 million people without a contract to switch to a new provider.

The money saving expert also shared a cheap SIM card comparison tool, which offers deals on unlimited minutes and SMS.

He pointed to a deal with Three, which offers users a 100GB Sim for £8.75 a month. Lycamobile, TalkMobile and Smarty also offer deals in a similar price range.

Mr Lewis highlighted reasons some might be reluctant to switch, such as needing more data or wanting to stay with their current provider, but said these issues were irrelevant to most.

In a recent Twitter poll, Mr Lewis found that 88% of respondents said they paid more than £8 a month, while 60% paid more than £15 a month and 34% paid more than £30. a month.

"So there are big savings to be made, as long as you're one of the 14 million households that don't have a contract," he said.

He urged those without a contract to try his Cheap Sim comparison tool. It allows you to filter by network, so you can find the cheapest offer for the provider you want. It also reports what each of the networks you have chosen offers.

He also pointed out that there are actually only four mobile networks in the UK: O2, EE, Vodafone and Three; all others use another provider's signal.

The only difference is that there may be benefits like 5G or Wifi calling that aren't offered on the discount networks, but if you get a signal on the main network, you'll get a signal at home on the cheap network that uses your signal.
