Description

A rediscovered photo album offering "fascinating insight" into separate visits by Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Margaret to two cable boats in the 1960s must go under the hammer. The company's commemorative album contains 14 6 x 8-inch black-and-white photographs of Philip's visit to CS Mercury in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, on February 23, 1966, and 14 of Margaret's visit with her husband thereafter, the Earl of Snowdon, at CS Enterprise in Hong Kong on March 5 of the same year. In many images, Prince Philip appears to be listening intently to the staff as he is shown around the ship.

Photos of Princess Margaret show her equally interested in learning more about the workings of the ship she visited.

She is often photographed smiling, wearing a blouse with a matching hat, paired with a knee-length skirt and bag.

The album will be auctioned at auction house Charles Miller, a maritime specialist, in London on April 25, and is expected to sell for between £300 and £500.

Charles Miller said: “Albums like these always provide fascinating insight into such important visits.

"In addition, it is rare to see photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones accompany the princess on her official duties."

The album was recently rediscovered after spending many years in a UK private collection.
