A man suspected of murder has been arrested after a person believed to be a woman died in a building fire in east London. The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to the fire on Tollgate Road in Beckton, Newham at around 5:28pm, along with the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and the London Fire Brigade (LFB). Emergency services are still on the scene and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, the force said.
A Met spokesperson said: 'Police, LAS and LFB are currently on site dealing with the fire.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident and investigations are ongoing.
“It is believed that there was a woman dead and several other injuries.
"There are no further details at this stage. Investigations into the causes of the fire are ongoing."

An LAS spokesman confirmed one person was killed and said five paramedics and a helicopter attended the fire.
They added that paramedics treated five people at the scene, who were taken to the hospital.
The spokesperson said: "We have dispatched a number of resources to the scene, including five ambulance teams, two incident response officers, an advanced paramedic, a clinical team leader and members of our Tactical Response Unit and Hazard Response Team. (Hart).
“We also send the air ambulance from London.
“We treated five patients before taking them to the hospital.
"Unfortunately, one person was pronounced dead at the scene."
Newham Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz said she was "deeply saddened" by the news and expressed her condolences.
She wrote on Twitter: "Heartfelt thanks to the firefighters @LFBNewham, @MPSNewham and @Ldn_Ambulance for their emergency response efforts.
“@NewhamLondon officers are working closely with them to support affected residents.
"The E6 turnpike has been cordoned off in response to today's serious incident."
She added: 'We are deeply saddened by the news that there has already been one death following the fire that broke out at apartments in Beckton.
"Our deepest condolences to the loved ones who are currently grieving."
