Tram services have been disrupted in Birmingham city center after emergency crews were called over a spill of an unknown substance at a government building. West Midlands Fire Service cordoned off an area outside the city's Civil Justice Center after being called to the scene near the West Midlands Metro Bull Street tram stop at 4:07pm on Tuesday. The brigade said West Midlands Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service were also present at the incident, which disrupted tram services in both directions.
A statement from the fire service said: "We can confirm that this incident involves the spill of an unidentified substance on a six-story property on Bull Street."
“The affected building has been fully evacuated with cordons around the area. Bull Street remains closed and streetcars stop between Corporation Street and Bull Street.
In a tweet, West Midlands Police said: “We are currently in the Lord Chancellors office, Bull Street.
"A cordon is in place as colleagues from the West Midlands Fire Service investigate the spill of an unknown substance."
