A group of climate activists occupied reserved tables during a protest at a luxury restaurant in London. Fifteen protesters from Animal Rebellion, an offshoot of the Extinction Rebellion militant group, stormed Scott's seafood restaurant in Mayfair on Friday night to demand an end to farming and fishing. They were seated at tables reserved for guests just before 7pm with homemade menus that explained the benefits of a plant-based diet.

Police officers were present when the protesters were seen being led out of the restaurant.

Louisa Hillwood, 28, a primary school teacher among those who took action, said: "We are peacefully occupying tables at Scott's to definitively declare that no seafood is sustainable."

“Restaurants like this are symbols of terrible inequality, be it the cost of living crisis, the climate emergency, and the animal emergency.

"We know that transitioning to a plant-based food system would help fishing communities find sustainable jobs while providing abundant, affordable and nutritious food, not to mention the benefits of marine regeneration."

The Metropolitan Police said: 'Police were called at 7:09pm after a group of protesters entered a restaurant on Mount Street W1K.

"Then they were removed by security."

A Scott spokesperson said: 'All of our seafood suppliers adhere to strict government guidelines and all fish on our menu is sustainably sourced.

"Our fish is only taken from boats that are licensed to fish their quotas ethically."
