Gary Lineker has reportedly been questioned by the BBC following a social media post in which he appeared to compare Home Office policy to Nazi Germany. The Match of the Day presenter will be "reminded of his social media responsibilities" by the company following a Twitter response he sent on Tuesday, according to the Daily Telegraph. Lineker commented on a Twitter video posted by Home Secretary Suella Braverman in which she revealed the government's plans to stop migrant ships from crossing the English Channel.

"OMG this is beyond horrible," she wrote.

In response to the sports commentator, another Twitter user called his comment "off the mark" and added that it was "easy to pontificate when it doesn't affect you."

Lineker replied: “There is not a massive influx. We welcome far fewer refugees than other major European countries.

"This is just an immeasurably cruel policy aimed at the most vulnerable people in language not unlike that used by Germany in the 1930s, and am I out of line?"

His comments were widely condemned by conservative politicians, who urged the BBC to act.

Conservative Party vice-chairman Lee Anderson wrote: 'This is just another example of how these overpaid stars are out of touch with the voting public.

"Instead of lecturing, Mr. Lineker should just read football scores and flogging sheets."

A BBC source told the Daily Telegraph: "Gary will be spoken to and reminded of his social media responsibilities.

A company spokesperson added: “The BBC has a guide for social media, which is published.

“The people who work for us are aware of their responsibilities on social media. We have appropriate internal processes in place when necessary. »
