The five people, three women and two men, were last seen in Cardiff in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The women, Sophie Russon, 20, Eve Smith, 21 and Darcy Ross, 21, were last seen in Cardiff in the early hours of Saturday after driving from Porthcawl.

They had traveled in a Volkswagen Tiguan with two men, Rafel Jeanne, 24, and Shane Loughlin, 32, both from Cardiff, also missing. On Monday, a police spokesman said the VW Tiguan was found just after midnight in the St Mellons area of Cardiff.

Police believe the car was involved in a traffic accident and ran off the A48.

Amid the search results, Gwent Police were referred to police watchdog IOPC "in accordance with normal procedures", the force said.

The other two missing people were taken to hospital with serious injuries, Gwent police told the PA news agency.

Officers found the car they were last seen in, in the St Mellons area of Cardiff.

The VW Tiguan was picked up shortly after midnight on Monday.
