Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said Ireland should be "fair, firm and tough" on immigration and the EU should secure its borders so people smugglers don't decide who enters Europe.
Varadkar made the remarks in Brussels ahead of a meeting of EU leaders with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after addressing the European Parliament and meeting British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in London on Wednesday. Varadkar said there was a possibility of starting EU membership talks with Ukraine later this year, but said membership tests should not be watered down.
