Half a million teachers, academics, train drivers, border force workers, civil servants and security guards will take part in a coordinated strike on Wednesday.

Parts of the country will effectively halt on "strike Wednesday" when around 200,000 teachers take part in their biggest walkout in three decades, closing classrooms in 85% of schools.

A total of half a million teachers, academics, train drivers, border force workers, civil servants and security guards are expected to participate in a coordinated day of industrial action.
