Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has been fined for not wearing a seatbelt in a moving car while recording a video on social media. Lancashire police said they had released a 42-year-old Londoner on a conditional offer of a certain sentence. The number 10 said Sunak "fully accepted that it was a mistake and apologized", adding that he would pay the fine. Passengers not wearing seatbelts, if available, can be fined £100.

This could increase to £500 if the matter goes to court. Speaking to BBC Breakfast, the deputy prime minister said Sunak was "a man of the highest standards of integrity" who had "made a mistake on the seatbelt issue." Dominic Raab said the prime minister was "a demanding man" and that he "put his hands up" and apologised. The prime minister was in Lancashire when the video was filmed, during a visit to the north of England.
