Introduction
Boeing developed a heavy duty military cargo aircraft. The first flight of this aircraft was on November 9, 1944 and this aircraft was introduced in 1947. The primary users of this aircraft was US air force and Israeli air force. Total 77 units were built which got retired in 1978.

Development
This aircraft was developed during the end of World was 2 and the project got completed just before the death of Boeing president Philip G. Johnson. On November 9, 1944 this aircraft took its first flight. Two months later on January 9, 1945 this aircraft covered the distance from Seattle to Washington, DC in approx. 6 hours and 3 minutes at the average speed of 616 kmph.
In 1947 c-97 was introduced for commercial purposes as well. It was planned to keep the lower deck for sleeping cabins. Only 56 planes were introduced in the commercial market.
The C-97 was majorly used by the air forces of different countries.
