Southwest Airlines Flight 1380

Introduction

It was April 17, 2018 and the aircraft was Boeing 737-7H4 which was operated by Southwest Airlines. The flight was scheduled from LaGuardia Airport, New York to Dallas Love Field, Texas. There were 14 people on board. Out of which 144 were passengers and 5 were crew members. Unfortunately 1 out all on board lost the life in this accident and other 8 were injured.




The flight was at 32,000 feet when left engine of the flight failed. The parts of engine inlet and cowling broke and its fragments hit the window in passenger compartment. This caused rapid decompression. Pilot noticed all this and made an emergency landing on Philadelphia International Airport. The passenger who was sitting next to the broken window suffered from major injuries and lost the life where as other 8 passengers had minor injuries.  




The investigation report revealed that the cause of accident was the fatigue crack in the fan blade number 13.
