Introduction

It was April 20, 1978 and the flight was scheduled from Paris to Seoul. The aircraft was carrying 109 people out of which 7 were passengers and 12 were crew. This crash was survived by 107 passengers as 2 were killed in this crash. It was reported that the aircraft was flying over the soviet airspace. 


As the plane was not responding to the ground requests, authorities dispatched the Su-15 interceptor. As there was no response from the plane towards the interceptor. Authorities commanded the to shoot down the aircraft. The aircraft fired R-60 missile, first one was missed but the second missile hit the lift wing of the aircraft. This hit ripped off the 4 meters of the left wing. Fuselage of the aircraft was also punctured due to the missile attack which resulted in rapid decompression.

After, few attempts the plane was landed on the ice. After about 2 hours the Soviet troops reached the aircraft and started with the rescue operations.

It is also believed that the aircraft was dismantled and all equipment were transferred by helicopters.
