What is PAN 2.0 Project?

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed that citizens will receive a free upgrade to their PAN Card featuring a QR Code. "There will be a unified portal, it will be completely paperless and online," stated Vaishnaw, further emphasizing that the system will priorities addressing grievances.

The implementation aligns with the Government's Digital India vision, Establishing PAN as a unified identifier across specified government agencies' digital platforms.

The government's PAN 2.0 initiative aims to establish the Permanent Account Number as a common business identifier across all digital platforms of governmental organizations.

The Income Tax Department's PAN 2.0 Project brings forth several key advantages through its technology-driven transformation of taxpayer registration services:

There will be no requirement for citizens to modify their PAN number. The upcoming PAN 2.0 will be introduced as an enhancement to the current PAN system. Vaishnaw further explains that the new card will feature a QR code for efficient scanning and will be entirely online.
